Gurupurnima celebration in Rang Kol on 5th July 5, 2009 – Team work rocks !!!
Rang Kol Slum in south Kolkata is one of the slums we are working in , spreading the knowledge of Guruji and helping them in various ways to become self sufficient. One of the self sufficiency schemes that we are running for the women is making of bags of bio-degradable material which can become the replacement for the harmful plastic bags. We decided to celebrate Gurupurnima on the Sunday just before Gurupurnima , 5th of July. The program consisted of a free medical camp with free medicines followed by a satsang & a dhyan session. The core team which is working at Rang Kol slum are Malini, Padma, Debarati , Soma and Myself, each one of us contributing in our unique ways.
For the free medical camp, we had the one & only pair of Parthasarathy da & Anup bhaiyya. Parthasarathy da is a wonderful medical doctor and Anup bhaiyya is the perfect person handling the free medicines and handing them over to the patients according to Parthada’s prescription. The understanding between them has become so good, that it is a joy to watch them work together.
When I reached the venue at 2:45 I saw Tarak and a few other children, sincerely cleaning the club room. Tarak had beautifully decorated the table on which Guruji’s photo was kept. We also asked him to draw something on the blackboard. Parthda, Padmadi, their son Joy and Anup bhaiyya joined in shortly. They quickly set up everything and the camp started. Parthada saw a total of 90 patients and free medicines were given to all. In between, Debrati & Malini joined us. Malati Kakima & Kaushik also came in and stayed for sometime.
After the medical camp wrapped up at around 6 PM and it was time for Satsang ! As Malini and Padma started off with soulful songs, slowly the room filled up. There were around 40 odd kids and few elders in the room, everyone enjoying the satsang to the fullest. The kids sang with their heart out and clapped in unison and we were transported to a different world altogether, a world of only beauty & celebration. What was most heartening to see, most of the kids closed their eyes on their own while singing. In between Malini also conducted a short meditation. Some of them like Tarak do such good meditation, that we can only admire them in wonder ! After all spirituality is not just a blessing on the well off and educated class of the society! When we were giving away the food packets in the end, we realized, that the Divine had ensured that even the estimate on the no of foodpacket was perfect !! Everyone got one, and no left over!!! It was a very fulfilling experience for me. Each one of us worked hard and it was the most beautiful team-work. Truly team work rocks , something that Guruji embodies in all HIS actions and thoughts ! We are blessed to have such a visionary as our Guru and Friend.
